Reigning UEFA Nations League champions Spain will try to push Denmark out of the top of the A-League Group 4 table when they go head-to-head at the new Condomina Stadium on Saturday night
Although Denmark have earned a maximum of six points from their first two games, Spain are in second place, two points adrift.
Spain have been strong in all competitions of late, going unbeaten in their last 12 matches. They have won 10 of them. Additionally, they opened the season with a draw against Serbia, but rebounded strongly with a 1-4 win against Switzerland.
Next, Spain dominated the head-to-head matchups, going undefeated since 1993. At home, Spain has won six straight over Denmark and scored 12 goals in that span. And most of the victories have been by 2-1 scores. Judging by past performances, we expect an interesting matchup between these two teams on Saturday at the Enrique Roca Stadium.
The Danes have struggled in Euro qualifying, but have done well in the Nations League, where they have started the season with two consecutive wins. In their first two games against Serbia and Switzerland, they scored two goals each.
Denmark beat Switzerland, who were playing with only nine men, 2-0, and then beat Serbia by the same scoreline three days later to get some measure of revenge against Serbia after a 0-0 draw with them at Euro 2024.
Knudsen's side are ranked 20th in the FIFA world rankings at the top of A-League Group 4, and are keen to consolidate their position at the top this time around after finishing second in their previous two Nations League appearances.
However, Saturday's success could be a challenge for Denmark as they have only won two of their previous 16 matches against Spain - their most recent victory coming in March 1993 when they beat them 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Let's see if history can repeat itself.
Verdict: Home win
Score: 2-1 2-0 3-1
